Representatives from BC Patient Safety & Learning System (BCPSLS) Central Office spent an incredible few days in London for the Datix International Patient Safety Conference where we listened to and learned from a diverse group of patient safety leaders. The insights they shared covered a broad range of patient safety topics – from high-profile organizational failures and personal tragedy to resilience and innovation – and we were inspired by their stories…stories which are the very essence of why patient safety is so vitally important.
We were also impressed by the evolution of Datix and their vision for the future of patient safety. This year’s conference was particularly significant as the new Datix Cloud IQ was unveiled. This new software, based on the Plan-Do-Study-Act model for improvement, will offer advanced analytics tools and greater ability for healthcare organizations to learn from things that go wrong.
As Datix’s first client outside of the UK, BCPSLS has always been proud to contribute to the development of the Datix software and we appreciated receiving recognition from Datix’s Jonathan Hazan for our input. We hope to continue these beneficial collaborations with Datix and look forward to learning more about the new software platform over the coming months.
Our trip to London was also a chance to visit Datix’s head office in Wimbledon where we met face-to-face with many of the UK team for the first time – people we have communicated with by phone or email for years. Positive change happens when people come together and we’re confident that improvements in patient safety reporting and learning will continue as we move forward on this remarkable and important journey together.
