Fraser Health Communications and Public Affairs collaborated with Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Eagle Ridge Hospital and clinical nurse educators to develop a touching and effective video that demonstrates how being mindful is our best defence against events that can harm patients.

The video begins with an overview of key patient safety facts and touches on the fast-paced, complex atmosphere of hospitals. It highlights how preventable errors impact families and staff, and ends with a safety promise that includes strategies and processes to protect patients from undue harm.

Diane Wild, Communications and Public Affairs, says the video is meant to use an emotional response to promote mindfulness around patient safety.

“The demands on healthcare staff are constant. A video can’t reduce their workload, but a safety promise can help them remember to focus on patient safety even when things get hectic.”

The video was recently recognized with an award in the multi-media production category by the Health Care Public Relations Association of Canada.

Fraser Health is on a continuous journey to build and foster a culture of safety across the organization. For more information on the My Safety Promise campaign, please contact Diane Wild, Fraser Health Senior Communications Consultant, at diane.wild@fraserhealth.ca

Fraser Health Communications and Public Affairs would like to thank Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, staff at Eagle Ridge Hospital and clinical nurse educators from across Fraser Health for their input and assistance in developing this video.
